Ferry from Agia Marina to Nea Styra

This is the short strait crossing from the east Attica coast over to southern Evia, taking about 45 minutes. The Styra and Agia Marina consortium run it as a working car ferry, and a good share of the traffic is Greek drivers heading to and from holiday homes. There is little ceremony to it; you queue, you board, you are across.

Nea Styra is a modest seaside resort on the south-east coast of Evia, popular with domestic tourists rather than international visitors. Its appeal is beaches and easy access from Athens, with tavernas along the front and a low-key summer rhythm. From the pier the road network opens up the whole southern end of the island, including Karystos further down the coast.

Crossings run several times a day, more frequently at weekends and through the summer. Exact departures and fares are in the timetable below. Agia Marina is roughly an hour's drive from central Athens, which makes this the quickest way onto southern Evia with a car; the nearby Rafina to Marmari route is the main alternative.

Tips for the Agia Marina to Nea Styra ferry

• Do not book back-to-back same-day connections without at least a 2-hour buffer – ferry delays are common enough that tight connections frequently fail.
• If you are travelling with young children, bring their identity documents; crew are required to check ID for all passengers regardless of age.
• If your booking allows free cancellation up to a certain date, set a calendar reminder a few days before that deadline in case your plans change.
• Boarding order on most ferries is: vehicles first, then foot passengers – foot passengers are usually called to board 15–20 minutes before departure.
• Always cross-check your ticket details – date, vessel name, passenger count, and vehicle details – before the cancellation window closes.
