Blue Star Ferries connects Ikaria with Leros on the Diagoras, a crossing of a little over three hours on the conventional ship. It runs as one leg of the longer route between the North Aegean and the Dodecanese, so there is usually a call at Patmos in between. Deck fares start around €17.

Leros' ferry port is Lakki, and arriving here is unlike arriving anywhere else in Greece thanks to the 1930s Italian-built Art Deco and Rationalist buildings around the harbour. The island's older main town, Platanos, and the beach village of Agia Marina lie separately, with the Castle of Panteli on the ridge above. It is a quiet, understated island that suits travellers who want the Dodecanese without the resorts.

The direct sailing runs about once a week, so it is worth checking against your dates early. Current departures and fares are listed below. If the timing does not work, Patmos and Kalymnos both have frequent short hops to Leros throughout the season.
