This is one of the long hauls of the eastern Aegean, linking Agios Kirykos on Ikaria with the volcanic island of Nisyros in the Dodecanese. Blue Star Ferries run it with the Blue Star Patmos, and the crossing takes close to eight hours as the ship works its way south through the island chain. It is a conventional ferry rather than a fast boat, with seating, decks and a bar, so there is plenty of room to settle in for the day.

Nisyros is a small volcanic island, and ferries dock at Mandraki, the main harbour village on the north-west coast. The island's draw is its caldera, which can be visited on foot or by local bus from the port, and the pace ashore is slow outside the middle of the day. Mandraki itself is compact enough to walk end to end in a few minutes, with tavernas and rooms close to where the ship ties up.

Sailings are sparse, running roughly once a week rather than daily, so this is a crossing to plan around rather than turn up for. The current timetable and fares are shown in the table below. If the sailing does not fit, most travellers route via Kos or Kalymnos and pick up a shorter local connection to Nisyros from there.
