Blue Star Ferries connects Ikaria with Rhodes on the Blue Star Patmos, a run of around twelve hours down the Dodecanese chain. The ship calls at several islands on the way, so it is an overnight passage rather than a direct crossing. Deck fares start around €56, and a cabin is worth booking.
Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese and one of the best-known destinations in the Aegean, with a UNESCO-listed medieval Old Town built by the Knights of St John. Ferries come in beside Mandraki harbour, traditionally associated with the Colossus, and the Old Town walls are a short walk away. Beyond the town there are beaches down both coasts and a large resort infrastructure.
