This crossing links Ikaria's main port of Agios Kirykos with Symi in the southern Dodecanese, a run of a little over ten and a half hours on the Blue Star Patmos. It is a conventional ferry making several island calls on the way south, so the day passes with a steady rhythm of arrivals and departures. Deck fares start around €33.
Symi's harbour is the reason people come. Tiers of colourful Italianate mansions rise straight up the hillside from the waterfront, and the ferry berth puts you in the middle of it. The island has a sponge-diving past, good seafood, and the Panormitis Monastery on the south coast, reached by road or excursion boat.
Departures are infrequent, roughly once a week, so this is not a spur-of-the-moment connection. The live timetable and current fares are listed below. Travellers with tighter dates often go via Rhodes, which has far more frequent boats across to Symi.
