Agios Nikolaos to Pessada is the direct Zakynthos to Kefallonia crossing, about an hour and three quarters aboard the Iason with the Ionian Sea Ferries Consortium. It is the only sea link between the two islands, and it saves a long and awkward detour through Kyllini on the mainland. The route runs seasonally, so it is a summer option rather than a year-round one.
Pessada is a small harbour on the southern tip of Kefallonia, near Argostoli. It is a ferry berth rather than a village, with no facilities to speak of at the quay. The drive up the south coast towards Argostoli is the reward, and the island's main centres are all within an easy run by car.
Expect a couple of sailings a day in high season, with the current timetable and fares shown below. Sort out onward transport before you arrive, as there is no reliable taxi rank at Pessada. Foot passengers in particular should plan this leg carefully.
