Alonissos to Thessaloniki is the long northern run out of the Sporades, operated by Seajets on the fast craft Speedrunner Jet in a little over four hours. It heads up the Thermaic Gulf rather than back to the usual Thessaly ports, which makes it a useful link if you are flying out of northern Greece. Seating is indoors on this vessel.
Thessaloniki is Greece's second city, and the ferry arrives on the waterfront within reach of the centre rather than at an out-of-town terminal. The seafront promenade runs from the port past the White Tower, and the city's Roman and Byzantine remains, food markets and student nightlife are all within walking distance of the water. There are trains and long-distance buses onward to the rest of northern Greece, and the airport is south-east of the city.
