Anafi to Naxos is a northward run through the Cyclades on the Blue Star 1, operated by Blue Star Ferries. The crossing takes around three and three-quarter hours, generally calling at Santorini and sometimes Ios on the way. It is a large conventional ferry, so it handles the open stretches well even when the meltemi is up.
Naxos is the largest island in the Cyclades, with mountains, farmland and long sandy beaches. Ferries arrive at Naxos Town, where the Portara, a huge freestanding marble doorway from an unfinished Temple of Apollo, stands at the harbour entrance. The Venetian Kastro sits above the old town, and inland the mountain villages of Halki and Apiranthos are an easy day out.
Sailings run a couple of times a week, and the current timetable and fares are shown below. Fares start around thirty-one euros. Naxos is a major hub, with frequent boats to Paros, Mykonos, Santorini, Piraeus and the small islands of Koufonissia, Schinoussa and Iraklia.
