Corfu is served from Ancona as part of the longer Adriatic run down to Igoumenitsa and Patra, with the Anek-Superfast joint venture and Grimaldi Lines both operating. The crossing takes around twenty to twenty-one hours, so it is an overnight passage plus most of the following day, and a cabin is the sensible choice. These are large conventional ferries taking cars, campervans and freight alongside foot passengers.
Corfu Town's port handles the international arrivals from Italy and Albania as well as the domestic boats to Igoumenitsa and the other Ionian islands. The UNESCO-listed old town, framed by the Old and New Venetian fortresses, lies a short way from the terminal. Corfu is green and distinctly Ionian in character, with Venetian, French and British influences that separate it from the Aegean islands.
