Turn-up-and-go car ferry
Small car ferries shuttle back and forth across the strait beside the Rio–Antirio bridge. There is no timetable to book against: turn up, board the next boat and pay there.
- Tickets: Pay at the boat. There is no advance booking.
- Fares: Car €8 whatever its length, with the driver and passengers carried free; motorbike €1.10 (as of August 2026).
- Operator: Rio-Antirio Lines
In strong winds the ferry can stop running. The bridge stays open (car toll €15.90 from January 2026).

Antirio to Rio takes about ten minutes, a shuttle across the narrowest point of the Gulf of Corinth run by Rio-Antirio Lines. The ferries are open-deck vehicle boats that load and unload quickly, so it is closer to a floating stretch of road than a sea crossing. The Charilaos Trikoupis bridge looms alongside for the whole ten minutes.
Rio is a small port and suburb just northeast of Patra, on the Peloponnese side. It is a transport node rather than a destination, and from the ramp the road runs straight into Patra and on towards Corinth and Athens. The bridge landfall is right beside the harbour.
The ferry runs many times a day through daylight and into the evening, so there is little point planning around it. Patra, a few kilometres down the coast, handles the international sailings to Italy if you are continuing that way.
