Arki to Farmakonissi takes around an hour on the Saonisos, run by SAOS Ferries as part of the subsidised line serving the smallest islands of the northern Dodecanese. It is a conventional boat, not a fast craft, and the call at Farmakonissi exists to serve the island rather than to carry visitors. The crossing itself is short and straightforward in fair weather.
Farmakonissi is a very small, sparsely inhabited island close to the Turkish coast, best known for its border and military significance rather than as a place to visit. There is effectively no tourist infrastructure at the landing, and no accommodation or services you could rely on. Treat it as a working stop rather than a destination.
Sailings are very occasional, on the order of once a fortnight, and the current timetable and fares are shown below. Anyone considering the trip needs to work out the return leg first, because there may be a long gap. Patmos and Leros are the practical bases for this part of the Dodecanese.
