Astypalea to Patmos takes a little over four hours on the Dodekanisos Pride, the Dodekanisos Seaways catamaran. The route heads north through the Dodecanese, calling at islands along the way before reaching Skala, the port of Patmos. As a fast craft it is mostly enclosed seating, and it can feel lively in a strong meltemi.

Skala is a working harbour with the fortified Monastery of St John the Theologian visible on the hill above, crowning the Chora. Most visitors head up for the monastery and the Cave of the Apocalypse, where St John is said to have written the Book of Revelation. The island is a UNESCO World Heritage site, which has kept development modest, and the beaches away from Skala are quiet.
