Bodrum to Agia Marina Route Map

Map of the Aegean showing the ferry route west-north-west from Bodrum to Agia Marina.

This crossing links Bodrum on the Turkish coast with Leros in the Dodecanese, taking about an hour on the Sea Star Bodrum, operated by Makri Travel. It is a passenger-only catamaran service, so no vehicles, and it runs seasonally rather than year round. Passport control applies at both ports, so allow time before departure.

You land at Agia Marina, the commercial and administrative centre of Leros, with a working harbour rather than a resort waterfront. The Italian rationalist architecture around the port, including the clocktower and the covered market, dates from the 1912 to 1943 Italian administration and gives the town an unusual look for a Greek island. Leros is quieter than Kos or Patmos nearby, with calm beaches and a good deal of wartime history.

Expect roughly one sailing a day in the summer months, with the service thinning out sharply at the shoulders of the season, and the current timetable and fares are listed below. Leros's other port, Lakki, a few kilometres away, handles the larger domestic ferries, so check which harbour your onward boat leaves from.

Tips for the Bodrum to Agia Marina ferry

  • On a sunny day, the sheltered lee side of the vessel (the side facing away from the wind) is the most comfortable spot on the outer deck.
  • If you are connecting to another ferry on the same day, check whether both depart from the same area of the port to gauge how much walking time you need.
  • The Cyclades are more exposed to the meltemi than the Dodecanese, which are sheltered by the Turkish coast – a relevant factor when comparing summer sea conditions.
  • For a day trip on a short route, note the return departure times before you leave the port so you are not caught out.
