Chios to Leros is among the longest single legs on the Blue Star Ferries North Aegean and Dodecanese line, taking between roughly eight and a half and ten hours on the Diagoras depending on the calls made. The ship works its way south past Samos and Patmos before reaching Leros. It is a conventional car ferry with cabins, so an overnight sailing is comfortable enough.

The ferry port on Leros is Lakki, a deep natural harbour lined with 1930s Italian Rationalist buildings, an unusual sight in the Aegean and the thing most people remember about arriving. Lakki is separate from the island's older main town, Platanos, and from the beach village of Agia Marina, both a short drive away. Leros is quiet and understated, with the hilltop Castle of Panteli above Platanos and a low key, uncommercial feel.

The route runs around a couple of times a week, so timings are the main constraint. Current schedules and fares are shown below. From Lakki there are frequent onward connections within the Dodecanese to Kalymnos, Kos and Rhodes, plus local boats to Patmos and Lipsi.
