Fourni to Megisti, otherwise known as Kastellorizo, is among the longest ferry journeys scheduled in Greece, at around fifteen and a quarter hours on Blue Star Ferries' Blue Star Patmos. The ship works the length of the Dodecanese chain with calls along the way before the final leg east. A cabin is a sensible investment on a crossing this long.
Kastellorizo is Greece's easternmost inhabited island, sitting just off the Turkish coast near Kas. The port town wraps around a small bay in a curve of pastel neoclassical houses, and the whole settlement can be walked in a few minutes. Seafood tavernas along the harbourfront and boat trips out to the Blue Cave are the main draws.
