Glossa, at the northern end of Skopelos, connects across to Platanias on the South Pelion peninsula in around an hour to an hour and a quarter. Mantoudi Lines runs the route with the Zefyros, and it is a conventional crossing rather than a fast-craft dash, taking you over open water towards the mainland coast. It is a useful alternative to the longer haul into Volos.

Platanias is a quiet rural harbour on the Pelion coast rather than a resort, with no great landmark at the quayside. Travellers use it mainly as an alternative mainland gateway to the Sporades, stepping off into the forested hills and small stone villages of the Pelion peninsula.
