The reverse of the short southwestern hop, Karkinagri to Manganitis takes about half an hour on the Pegasos, operated by Hellenic Coast Lines. Both harbours are small village affairs, and the run is really a piece of local transport rather than a tourist crossing. The coastline it follows is steep and largely roadless, which is the point of the service.
Manganitis is a small fishing village on Ikaria's south coast, quiet and traditional, with a modest harbour and tavernas looking out over the water. There is no particular sight to visit, and people come for swimming and the unhurried Ikarian atmosphere. It works as a secondary ferry stop on this coast, separate from the main port town at Agios Kirykos.
