Katapola to Mykonos (Tourlos) Route Map

Map of the Cyclades showing the ferry route north-west from Katapola to Mykonos.

Katapola to Mykonos is a Seajets high-speed run on the Super Jet 2 or Superjet, taking a little under three hours. The boats call at other islands on the way north, which is why the trip takes longer than the distance suggests. Seating is enclosed, luggage goes in racks by the door, and the crossing can be lively when the meltemi is up.

Arrivals dock at Tourlos, the newer main ferry port a couple of kilometres north of Mykonos Town, built to keep the big ships away from the old harbour in Chora. Buses, taxis and transfers meet the boats, and you will need one to reach town or the south-coast beaches. Mykonos is the most cosmopolitan of the Cyclades, with Little Venice, the windmills and Chora's alleys on one side and the beach clubs on the other.

The route runs roughly once a day through the summer and stops outside the season. The current timetable and fares are shown below, and this is a high-speed fare, starting near €90. Mykonos connects onward to Piraeus, Rafina, Paros, Naxos and Santorini several times daily in season.

Hiring a car

Is it worth hiring a car on Mykonos?

Worth it if you plan to reach beaches like Elia or Kalafatis and the far side of the island, since buses run less often outside town. New Port is about 3km from Chora, roughly a 13-minute drive, and Chora itself is pedestrian-only so you park on the edge and walk in. Quad bikes are a popular alternative. Tips for the Katapola to Mykonos (Tourlos) ferry

  • Amorgos has two ferry ports, Katapola in the south and Aegiali in the north, about 20km apart by road and roughly 30 to 40 minutes' drive. Always check which port your ticket departs from before setting off, as the two are not interchangeable.
  • The Donoussa crossing is usually run by the small Express Skopelitis ferry, which is more sensitive to rough weather than larger vessels on the main Piraeus routes. In poor conditions check locally, as sailings can be delayed or cancelled at short notice.
  • A local bus links Chora to Katapola port, but its timetable shifts seasonally and is only loosely tied to ferry times, so confirm departure times locally rather than relying on a fixed schedule, especially for early sailings.
  • The flat bow (prow) area of a large ferry is usually accessible and offers outstanding forward views – one of the best spots to stand during harbour entry.
  • High-speed services between the Cyclades often run reduced frequencies in spring and autumn compared to July and August; check the actual timetable.
