Katapola to Patmos is a leg of the Blue Star Ferries route that runs east from the Cyclades into the Dodecanese, taking a little over two hours on the Blue Star 2. It is a straightforward open-water crossing on a large conventional ship, with lounges, deck space and catering aboard. Because it is part of a longer itinerary, the boat may call at intermediate islands.
Patmos is a quiet, low-key island whose port is Skala, with the fortified Monastery of St John crowning the Chora on the hill above and visible from the quay. The monastery and the Cave of the Apocalypse are the reason many people come, and together they form a UNESCO World Heritage Site. That status has kept development modest, so the island stays calmer than its profile suggests.
