Katapola to Rhodes is the full length of the Cyclades-to-Dodecanese link, worked by Blue Star Ferries' Blue Star 2 in around nine hours. The ship calls at several islands on the way east, so much of the day is spent aboard. It is a large conventional ferry with cabins, lounges and catering, and booking a cabin is worth considering on the longer sailings.
Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese and one of the major destinations in the Greek islands, with a UNESCO-listed medieval Old Town built by the Knights of St John. The harbour at Mandraki is the one associated with the legendary Colossus. Beyond the walls there are beaches, resorts and a well-developed transport network across the island.
