Kavala to Leros is about as long as Greek ferry journeys get, running from the Macedonian coast the full length of the Aegean to the Dodecanese. Blue Star Ferries works it with the Diagoras, and the crossing takes around twenty-four hours with calls at islands along the way. Treat it as a night and a day at sea rather than a transfer.

Ferries dock at Lakki, the main port of Leros, which is unlike anywhere else in the Dodecanese for its striking 1930s Italian Art Deco buildings set right around the harbour. The island is quiet and understated, popular with travellers who want somewhere less commercial, and the hilltop Castle of Pandeli looks down over the east coast. Lakki is separate from the older town of Platanos and from the beach village of Agia Marina, both a short drive away.

The route runs only a couple of times a fortnight, so dates need to line up. The current timetable and fares are shown below. Leros is far more easily reached from Piraeus, Kos or Patmos, and the fast catamarans between the Dodecanese islands cover the local hops in a fraction of the time.
