Kos to Katapola is the westbound link from the Dodecanese into the Cyclades, run by Blue Star Ferries with the Blue Star 2. The crossing takes a little over three hours and runs via Astypalea, which is the natural stepping stone between the two island groups. Fares start around forty four euros for a foot passenger.
Katapola is one of Amorgos's two ports, a sheltered natural harbour on the west coast with a working village around it. The island's capital, Chora, sits up the hill a short bus ride inland, and the Hozoviotissa Monastery clings to the cliff face further along the coast. Amorgos is a long, mountainous island known for its walking routes and dramatic coastline rather than for resort life.
This runs about once a week, so it is very much a route to plan a journey around rather than a casual hop. The current timetable and fares are shown in the table below. Katapola has onward links to Naxos, the small Cyclades and Piraeus, and Amorgos's second port at Aegiali covers the northeast of the island.
