Koufonissi to Mykonos is a high-speed run of around two and a quarter hours, worked by Seajets catamarans such as the Super Jet 2. It links one of the smallest inhabited islands in the Cyclades with one of the busiest, and the contrast either side of the gangway is the point of the trip. Boats of this type carry cars as well as foot passengers, though seating is aircraft-style and the outside decks are limited.

Arrival is at Tourlos, the newer port a couple of kilometres north of Mykonos Town, built to keep the big ferries clear of the old harbour in Chora. Buses and taxis run the short distance into town, and the port has the usual ticket offices, cafes and car hire desks. From Chora you are within reach of Little Venice, the windmills and the beach clubs on the south coast.

The service runs roughly once a day through the season, so it is a workable day-to-day link rather than a turn-up-and-go one. Mykonos is a major hub in its own right, with onward high-speed connections to Paros, Naxos, Santorini and the mainland at Rafina and Piraeus.
