Ferry from Kusadasi (Turkey) to Vathy (Samos)

Kuşadası on the Turkish coast is the usual jumping-off point for Samos, and the crossing takes between forty-five minutes and an hour and a half depending on the boat. Makri Travel and Meander Travel run it with the Meander Express and the Sea Star Samos, both passenger craft rather than car ferries. It is an international route, so passports are checked at both ends and you should be at the terminal in good time.

Boats arrive at Vathy, officially Samos Town, the island's capital and main port, set at the head of a deep sheltered bay that gives the town its name. It is a working town with shopping streets, an archaeological museum and a long harbourfront lined with cafés, rather than a resort. From here roads run across to Pythagorio and the south coast, and ferries head on to Piraeus and the neighbouring Aegean islands.

The route runs a few times a day through the season and much less often in winter, and current departures and fares are shown below. Note that some sailings use the port at Pythagorio instead of Vathy, so check which quay your ticket is for before you plan the onward leg.
