Kythnos to Serifos is the quickest leg of the western Cyclades chain, taking between forty minutes and just over an hour depending on the boat. Seajets runs the fast craft Champion Jet1 and Magic Sea Ferries the Hsc Cat I, both high-speed catamarans with seated indoor accommodation rather than open decks. It is short enough that you are back on your feet almost as soon as you have settled.
Serifos is a rugged, arid island with one of the most striking hilltop Choras in the Cyclades, a tumble of white houses spilling down a steep cone above the port. Boats dock at Livadi, a sheltered bay with tavernas along the front and a bus running up the switchbacks to Chora. Beyond that it is uncrowded beaches, walking routes and the remains of the island's old iron-ore mining works.
The route runs a couple of times most days in high season across the two operators, tailing off outside it.
