Seajets' Aquablue links Lavrio with Mesta on the south coast of Chios, a crossing of around six hours. This is part of a longer north Aegean line rather than a dedicated service, so the ship is set up for a full day at sea. Six hours passes easily enough with a seat inside and time on deck as the ship works north.
Mesta is the port for the mastic villages of southern Chios. The village itself is a fortified medieval settlement of stone houses built shoulder to shoulder as a defence against pirate raids, with a maze of covered lanes at its heart. It is a quiet, atmospheric base for the mastic-growing country around it, and Chios Town, the island's main port and commercial centre, lies roughly thirty kilometres to the north.
Sailings on this leg are infrequent, about once a week, and concentrated in the warmer months. The current timetable and fares appear in the table below. If the dates do not work, the far busier services into Chios Town from Piraeus are the usual alternative.
