Leros to Agios Kirykos on Ikaria takes a little over three hours on Blue Star Ferries' Diagoras, the conventional ferry that links the Dodecanese with the North Aegean. It is a straightforward run north across open water, with the ship continuing on to Samos and beyond. Being a full-size vehicle ferry, it copes well with the swell that can build on this stretch.

Agios Kirykos is Ikaria's capital and principal port, a workaday harbour town rather than a polished resort. The town's thermal spa facilities sit close to the waterfront, drawing on Ikaria's long tradition of therapeutic hot springs. The island is best known for its unhurried culture and its reputation as a Blue Zone where people live unusually long lives.

Sailings are sparse, roughly once a week, so this is a crossing to build a plan around rather than one to catch on a whim.
