Limia, on the west coast of Chios, is the departure point for Psara, and the crossing takes around an hour and forty minutes. The Agia Marini I Shipping Co runs it with the Psara Glory, a small conventional ferry serving the island. It is open water across the northern Aegean, so sailings can be affected by wind.
Psara is a remote, sparsely populated island west of Chios, rugged and traditional, and one of the least-visited islands in the Aegean. Its main draw is historical: the island was the site of a devastating attack during the 1824 Greek War of Independence, and that history is still central to how the place presents itself. The small harbour town, also called Psara, has a modest waterfront with a few tavernas and a monument commemorating the island's past.
Sailings run only a few times a week, so connections need careful planning and a buffer day if the weather turns. Current departures are listed in the table below. Chios itself connects to Piraeus, Lesvos and Samos, and Limia is reached by road across the island from Chios Town.
