This is a short coastal run along Ikaria's own south shore, from the fishing village of Manganitis round to the island capital at Agios Kirykos. Hellenic Coast Lines' Pegasos covers it in about 55 minutes. The road between the two is slow and winding, so the boat is often the easier way to make the trip.
Agios Kirykos is Ikaria's capital and main port, a workaday harbour town rather than a polished resort. The thermal spa facilities near the harbour draw on the island's hot springs, part of a long therapeutic tradition here. Ikaria's reputation as a Blue Zone for longevity says a good deal about the pace of things ashore.
The Pegasos runs this leg two or three times a week, so it fits day plans loosely rather than tightly. Current sailings and fares are shown below. Agios Kirykos is where most of Ikaria's ferry links to Piraeus, Samos and the Dodecanese begin, while the island's north coast port at Evdilos handles some other routes.
