Manganitis to Karkinagri is a half-hour hop along Ikaria's southwestern coastline aboard the Pegasos, run by Hellenic Coast Lines. Both ends are small village harbours, and the boat is essentially a local lifeline linking places the island road serves poorly. It is one of the shortest scheduled crossings anywhere in the Aegean.

Karkinagri sits on the remote southwestern coast of Ikaria, quiet even by the standards of an island that takes things slowly. There is no sightseeing to speak of, and travellers come for the isolation, the unspoiled coastline and a handful of tavernas. Facilities are limited compared with Agios Kirykos or Evdilos, so stock up before you arrive.

The service runs two or three times a week rather than daily, and the current timetable and fares are shown below. It is worth checking the return leg at the same time, since the boat is often the only practical way back. Onward connections from Karkinagri are limited, and most travellers work their way back towards Agios Kirykos for anything further afield.
