Mesta to Myrina takes around six and a half hours on the Seajets Aquablue, running north from southern Chios to Lemnos. It is a long haul on a fast craft, part of a seasonal line that stitches the eastern Aegean islands together. Fares start around €22.
Myrina is the capital and main port of Lemnos, an attractive working town rather than a resort, with Ottoman and neoclassical buildings and two sandy town beaches. A large Byzantine and Genoese castle stands on the rocky headland between them and is worth the climb for the view. The island is known for its wine, ouzo and quiet beaches, and for the Gallipoli-era naval history around Moudros Bay.

Lemnos has an airport and better-established connections to the mainland, so it makes a sensible pivot point on a northern Aegean itinerary. Mesta is a mastic village on southern Chios, with the island's main port at Chios Town some thirty kilometres away.
