Milos to Koufonissi is a long east-west run across the Cyclades, operated by Seajets with the Superjet and Super Jet 2 at close to five hours. The high-speed boats work their way through the central islands before reaching the Small Cyclades, so the crossing takes in a good stretch of the Aegean rather than heading straight across. It is a full half-day at sea, and worth timing so you arrive with daylight left.

Koufonissi, properly Ano Koufonissi, is a small island near Naxos and part of the Small Cyclades group with Schinoussa, Iraklia and Donousa. The ferry docks at Adamas, the island's main town and bus hub, so pickup is easy and buses cover Plaka and Pollonia, but the schedule is thin and most of the striking beaches, Sarakiniko, Firiplaka, Tsigrado, sit well outside it.
