Patmos to Mytilini is one of the longest scheduled links in the eastern Aegean, around eleven and a half hours with Blue Star Ferries on the Diagoras. The ship works its way north through the Dodecanese and North Aegean with several intermediate calls. Book a cabin or an air seat if you are travelling overnight.
Mytilini is the capital and main port of Lesvos, the third largest Greek island, and it is a working city rather than a resort. A Genoese and Byzantine castle looks down over the harbour, with neoclassical mansions along the waterfront. The island is known for its olive oil, its ouzo distilleries, the petrified forest and the northern village of Molyvos.
