Patmos to Vathy, the main port of Samos, takes between roughly two and three quarter hours and four and three quarter hours depending on the ship and its calls. Blue Star Ferries and Superfast Ferries run it with the Diagoras and the Lefka Ori. These are large conventional ferries, so it is a comfortable crossing with room to move about.

Vathy, officially Samos Town, is the island's capital and main harbour, set in a deep sheltered bay that gives the town its name. It is a working town of shops, offices and a busy waterfront rather than a resort, with a good archaeological museum. Samos is green and mountainous by Aegean standards, with wine villages inland and beaches on both coasts.

The service runs a couple of times a week, mainly in season. The live timetable and fares are shown in the table below. From Vathy there are ferries to Piraeus, Chios and the North Aegean, plus short boats across to Kusadasi in Turkey.
