Pounta, on the Laconian coast of the southern Peloponnese near Neapoli, sits just across a narrow channel from Elafonissos, and the crossing takes about ten minutes. Elafonisos Ferries runs small vehicle-carrying landing craft back and forth all day. It is more of a shuttle than a scheduled ferry service, and cars, campervans and bikes all go across.

Elafonissos is a small island off the southern Peloponnese, close to Cape Malea, and it draws mainly Greek visitors rather than international ones. The reason most people come is Simos beach, with its pale sand and shallow turquoise water. The port and main settlement, also called Elafonissos, is a modest harbour village with tavernas along the waterfront and a short drive or walk to the beaches.

The shuttle runs constantly through the day in season, dozens of times daily, so there is little need to book ahead as a foot passenger. Current sailings and fares are shown below. Pounta is reached by road from Neapoli and Sparta, and in summer there are also seasonal links onward towards Kythira.
