Rhodes to Agios Kirykos is a long northwesterly run up the Aegean, operated by Blue Star Ferries with the Blue Star Patmos. The sailing takes around twelve hours, working its way up the Dodecanese chain before crossing towards Ikaria. Fares start around fifty five euros and this is a conventional ferry with seating, cabins and a canteen aboard.

Agios Kirykos is the capital and main port of Ikaria, an unpretentious, workaday harbour town rather than a resort. Ikaria is best known as one of the world's Blue Zones, with a reputation for longevity and a famously unhurried approach to time, and the town has thermal spa facilities near the harbour tied to the island's hot springs. Note that Ikaria has a second port at Evdilos on the north coast, used by some other routes.

This sails roughly once a week, so it is very much a planned leg rather than a casual connection. Current departures and fares are shown in the table below. From Ikaria there are onward links to Samos, Fourni, the Cyclades and Piraeus.
