Turn-up-and-go car ferry
Small car ferries shuttle back and forth across the strait beside the Rio–Antirio bridge. There is no timetable to book against: turn up, board the next boat and pay there.
- Tickets: Pay at the boat. There is no advance booking.
- Fares: Car €8 whatever its length, with the driver and passengers carried free; motorbike €1.10 (as of August 2026).
- Operator: Rio-Antirio Lines
In strong winds the ferry can stop running. The bridge stays open (car toll €15.90 from January 2026).

The Rio to Antirio crossing is one of the shortest ferry hops in Greece, about ten minutes across the narrowest point of the Gulf of Corinth. Rio-Antirio Lines run open-deck vehicle ferries that load and unload quickly, so the whole business feels more like a floating stretch of road than a sea journey. The suspension bridge is in view for the entire crossing.
Antirio sits on the north shore of the gulf, a small crossing point rather than somewhere to linger. Arriving drivers are straight onto the mainland road network towards Nafpaktos, Messolonghi and the west coast. The Charilaos Trikoupis bridge spans the strait alongside, and the ferry carries on as the cheaper alternative to the toll.
Sailings go many times a day, more or less continuously through daylight hours and into the evening, so there is rarely much waiting. Rio lies just northeast of Patra, so the crossing links neatly with the city and its international ferry port.
