Sifnos to Katapola is a long east-west crossing operated by Seajets on the Superjet and Super Jet 2, taking a little over four and a half hours. The high-speed boats work through the central Cyclades before reaching Amorgos in the east, so a good part of the time is spent calling at islands on the way rather than in open water.

Katapola is one of Amorgos's two main ports, a sheltered natural harbour on the west coast and a working village in its own right. The island's capital, Chora, sits on the ridge a short bus ride above, and the Hozoviotissa monastery, built into a cliff face further along the coast, is the island's best-known sight. Amorgos is a rugged, dramatic island popular with walkers.
