Sigri sits on the far western tip of Lesvos, and the run down to Piraeus is a long one, a little over ten hours on Blue Star Ferries' conventional ship the Blue Star Patmos. It is an overnight-scale crossing rather than a hop, taking you the length of the Aegean from the North Aegean islands to the Attica mainland. Cabins and reclining seats make more sense than deck space on a sailing of this length.

Piraeus is the main port of Athens, a few kilometres southwest of the city centre and one of the busiest passenger ports in Europe. It is a sprawling place with numbered gates running from E1 to E12, so it is worth checking which gate your ship berths at and where the exit lies from there. The metro terminus at Piraeus station connects directly into central Athens, and the archaeological museum and Mikrolimano marina are both close to the water.

The service is a seasonal one and runs about once a week rather than daily, so it needs planning around rather than turning up for. Current departures, operator and fares are shown in the timetable below, with fares starting around the mid forties in euro. If the dates do not work, the usual alternative is to cross Lesvos to Mytilini, which has far more frequent sailings towards Piraeus.
