Skiathos to Platanias is a short mainland hop of around half an hour, operated by Mantoudi Lines on the Zefyros. It crosses to the tip of the South Pelion peninsula rather than heading up the gulf to Volos, which makes it the quickest way off the island by sea. It is a small boat on a seasonal service.

Platanias is a quiet coastal harbour in Magnesia at the southern end of Pelion, a rural mainland landing rather than a resort or a transport hub. There is no significant infrastructure at the quay, so onward travel needs arranging: the road north winds through the forested Pelion villages towards Volos. For anyone driving down from Volos to meet the boat, it cuts a good deal of sailing time.
