Thessaloniki to Skopelos Route Map

Map of the Aegean showing the ferry route south-south-east from Thessaloniki to Skopelos.

Thessaloniki to Skopelos is a Sporades high-speed link operated by Seajets with the Speedrunner Jet, taking a little under four hours with a call at Skiathos on the way. It is a fast craft, so seating is indoors and the crossing is quicker than anything the conventional ferries manage from the mainland. Weather can disrupt it more readily than a large ferry.

Skopelos is greener and quieter than neighbouring Skiathos, thickly pine-forested and with a well-preserved main town. The port sits directly below Skopelos Town, whose tiers of white houses and churches climb the hillside above the harbour. The island is known for its beaches at Kastani and Stafylos, good walking, and as the location used for much of the Mamma Mia filming.

Sailings run several times a week through the summer. The current timetable and fares are shown below. Glossa, at the other end of the island, is a second smaller ferry port, and there are frequent local connections on to Alonissos.

Hiring a car

Can you rent a car in Skopelos?

Yes, several agencies operate within walking distance of Skopelos Town port, with free parking on the harbour front once you arrive. A car is genuinely useful here for reaching Mamma Mia filming locations like Kastani and Agios Ioannis beaches, which have good road links but sit some way from town; a compact or small SUV copes best with the terrain.
