Useful Resources for Your Greek Island Trip

The last known sailing on this route was on 10 September 2026.

No timetable beyond that date has been published yet. Greek operators often release the next season’s schedules only a few months ahead, so this can be a seasonal pause rather than the end of the route. Check whether it is currently available to book through Ferryscanner.

Historically, this route ran about 0.7 sailings a day in April 2026, about 0.7 sailings a day in May 2026, about 0.7 sailings a day in June 2026, about 0.7 sailings a day in July 2026, about 0.9 sailings a day in August 2026, about 0.5 sailings a day in September 2026.

Thymena to Karlovassi takes between about an hour and forty minutes and close to two hours on the Megalochari, the Sea Gem Maritime Company boat that serves the Fourni islands. It is a small local ferry crossing open water up to Samos, and the timing shifts depending on which stops are made. Not a boat to choose if the forecast is rough.

Karlovassi is the second town of Samos, on the north coast west of the capital Vathy. It is more of a working town than a tourist harbour, with a university presence and a split between the old and new quarters. It is a practical base for the western side of the island and its beaches.

The route runs most days in season, and the current timetable and fares are shown below. Samos is the natural place to pick up onward links, with an airport, ferries to Ikaria and the Cyclades, and seasonal crossings to Turkey. Allow spare time in your plans, since small-boat services out here are weather-sensitive.
