Corfu to Erikoussa is the run out to the Diapontia islands northwest of Corfu, operated by Kerkyra Lines with the Evdokia. The crossing takes around two and a half hours, since the boat works its way up the Corfu coast and calls at more than one of the small islands. It is a small vessel on an exposed stretch of water, so it is more weather-dependent than the mainland ferries.

Erikoussa is tiny and barely developed, with a small harbour village where most of the island's limited accommodation and tavernas are clustered. People come for quiet sandy beaches and a genuinely low-key alternative to Corfu's busier resorts. There is very little in the way of organised tourism, so it pays to sort out a room before arriving.

The service runs several times a week rather than daily, and is thinner outside the summer. The current timetable and fares are shown below. The same boat generally serves Mathraki and Othoni, so the three islands can be strung together with a little schedule reading.

Hiring a car

Is it worth hiring a car in Corfu?

Yes, particularly if you want to reach beaches and villages away from the main resorts, since the island is one of the largest Ionian islands and buses and taxis only cover the popular routes well. Terrain is hilly in places, so a car with reasonable power helps, and petrol stations thin out in rural areas, so fill up when you can. Compare local suppliers at Discover Cars.

Tips for the Corfu to Erikoussa ferry

  • The meltemi wind, a strong north-north-westerly, blows across the central and southern Aegean from roughly July through to early September.
  • On a sunny day, the sheltered lee side of the vessel (the side facing away from the wind) is the most comfortable spot on the outer deck.
  • Very calm sea conditions – glassy water and no swell – are common in early June and late September. These are the most comfortable times to cross the open Aegean.
