Schinoussa to Heraklia is the shortest hop in the Small Cyclades, timetabled at only a few minutes between the two harbours. Both Blue Star Ferries, with the Blue Star Naxos, and the local Express Scopelitis run it as part of longer island-stopping itineraries. In practice you are barely settled before the boat is manoeuvring alongside again.

Heraklia, also written Iraklia, is the westernmost and least populated island of the group, with very little development and a strong sense of being away from things. The port and main settlement is Agios Georgios, a simple harbour village with a scattering of rooms and tavernas. Walkers head for the quiet beaches and the Agios Ioannis cave, one of the larger caves in the Cyclades.
