On a high-speed boat such as the Champions League Jet 1 or Super Jet 2 it takes a little over an hour; on the Blue Star Naxos it is longer, and on the Express Scopelitis, which wanders through the Small Cyclades, it can take most of the day. Which boat you take matters more here than on almost any other route in the group.

Naxos is the largest island in the Cyclades, and the ferry comes in at Naxos Town, where the Portara, the huge freestanding marble doorway of an unfinished Temple of Apollo, stands at the harbour entrance. The town has a Venetian old quarter, plenty of accommodation and an easy waterfront. Inland there are mountain villages such as Halki and Apiranthos, and long sandy beaches down the west coast.
