Ferry from Prinos to Kavala

Prinos to Kavala is the alternative crossing off Thassos, going straight to the mainland city rather than to Keramoti. Thassos Seaways runs it in about an hour on a conventional car ferry. It saves the drive along the coast if Kavala itself is where you are heading.

Kavala is a historic port city in Eastern Macedonia, built up the hillside above its harbour, with the Panagia old town, a castle and the Kamares aqueduct all within walking distance of the quay. It is a proper city rather than a resort, with good food and a busy waterfront. Philippi, the archaeological site, is a short drive inland.

The service runs roughly once a day, with more sailings in the summer months. Current departures and fares are shown in the table below. Kavala has its own airport and bus links west to Thessaloniki and east to Xanthi and Alexandroupoli.

Tips for the Prinos to Kavala ferry

• Children tend to find ferry journeys exciting rather than tedious; give them a small bag of activities or let them explore the accessible deck areas safely.
• Ticket prices on some routes include a mandatory port surcharge; on others it is separate – the checkout total will clarify this before you pay.
• If your booking allows free cancellation up to a certain date, set a calendar reminder a few days before that deadline in case your plans change.
