This is the full westbound leg of the south-coast line, running from Agia Roumeli to Paleochora in around an hour and a half to an hour and 40 minutes. ANENDYK operate it with the Daskalogiannis, Samaria and Loutro Spirit, generally calling at Sougia on the way. It is a scenic run along a coastline with no road, backed by the White Mountains for much of its length.
Paleochora is the biggest town on this coast, spread across a low peninsula with sand on one side and pebbles on the other, and a Venetian castle ruin on the headland above. It has proper shops, banks, tavernas and a range of rooms, which makes it the natural place to end a few days of walking. Buses run inland from here to Chania.
