The ferry route between the Sporades islands of Alonissos and Skiathos is a popular one during the tourist season (May through to October).

The reason for this is that Skiathos has a small international airport, and so visitors who have spent time on Alonissos often take the ferry over to Skiathos in order to catch their flight home.

Ferries on the Alonissos Skiathos route run every day of the week, and in the peak season (July and August) there are usually 5 or 6 ferries per day.

Ferry Companies Sailing Alonissos to Skiathos

Two ferry companies operate the route between the Greek islands of Alonissos and Skiathos: Seajets and Aegean Flying Dolphins. Ferry tickets for both of them can be booked online in advance using Ferryscanner.

Aegean Flying Dolphins: This unusual looking high speed ferry only takes foot passengers, so if you are traveling with a car you would need to take another boat instead. It’s a quick vessel, taking just 1 hour and 25 minutes on the direct route from Alonissos to Skiathos. In the high season, Aegean Flying Dolphins sails once a day.

Seajets: SeaJets runs most of the crossings from Alonissos to Skiathos. Its conventional ferries include Sporades Star, a large vessel that takes vehicles, so if you are traveling with a car it’s a good option. Travel times on the conventional ferries are about 1 hour and 45 minutes. In summer SeaJets adds high speed boats such as Eagle Jet 2 and Speedrunner Jet, the fastest of which take about 55 minutes; in August 2026 it had four boats on this route.

No longer in the timetables: Hellenic Seaways (part of the Attica group, sometimes referred to as Blue Star Ferries) used to sail from Alonissos to Skiathos with the Express Skiathos, and Magic Sea Ferries offered a once a week crossing in 2022. Neither company appears on this route in the timetables we have tracked since August 2025.

Note that although Anes Ferries do sail between Volos and the Sporades islands, they currently do not offer a direct ferry from Alonissos to the Greek island of Skiathos.

Tips For Taking The Alonissos Skiathos Ferries

Alonissos ferry port is within walking distance of the town. You can find it here on Google maps (it is sometimes known as Patitiri Port).

Passengers should aim to be at the ferry port at least a half an hour before departure. It is strongly advised for you to purchase tickets a few days before you sail, particularly in the busy summer months of July and August.

The departure area at Alonissos has a small covered area for passengers, as well as a cafe – which may or may not be open!

Direct ferries from Alonissos to Skiathos may still stop at Skopelos along the way – Make sure you get off the ferry at the right port!

Skiathos is small and hilly, with a public bus running a numbered route between the town and Koukounaries beach that covers most visitors' needs. A car or 4x4 is worth it if you want the quieter beaches reached by dirt roads, though free car parks at popular spots like Vromolimnos fill up by mid-morning in summer. Can you rent a car on Alonissos?

Yes, several agencies operate in and around Patitiri, the small port town where ferries dock. A car is handy for reaching the Old Town, Chora, about 3.5km uphill, and the beaches scattered along the east coast, though scooters and taxis cover the same ground on this compact island. • Short-hop ferry schedules in the Cyclades are designed to connect with the larger line vessels; look for timed connections when planning your itinerary.
