Marmaris sits on the Turkish Riviera, tucked into a well-sheltered bay backed by pine-covered hills, while Rhodes Town lies directly across the water on the Greek side. The strait between them is narrow enough that on a clear day you can see one shore from the other, which makes for a short, easy crossing rather than an open-sea passage.
