Metochi to Hydra Ferry

Useful Resources for Your Greek Island Trip

The last known sailing on this route was on 30 September 2026.

No timetable beyond that date has been published yet. Greek operators often release the next season’s schedules only a few months ahead, so this can be a seasonal pause rather than the end of the route. Check whether it is currently available to book through Ferryscanner.

Historically, this route ran about 9.4 sailings a day in August 2026, about 7.5 sailings a day in September 2026.

Metochi, a small landing on the Peloponnese coast near Ermioni, is the shortest crossing point to Hydra, taking between ten and twenty minutes. Hydra Lines runs it with the small boats Freedom II and Freedom III, shuttling back and forth across the channel. It is popular with people driving down from Athens who would rather park on the mainland than pay for the longer run out of Piraeus.

Hydra is unusual among Greek islands for banning motor vehicles entirely: transport is on foot, by donkey or mule, or by water taxi. The horseshoe harbour, lined with cannons and stone mansions climbing the slope behind, is the island's only real settlement and its centrepiece. Eighteenth and nineteenth-century captains' houses, art galleries and a long history as an artists' retreat give it a character quite unlike its neighbours.

The shuttle runs many times a day through the season and remains reasonably frequent outside it. Current departures and fares are shown below. There is secure parking at Metochi, and Hydra also connects to Piraeus, Poros and Spetses on the main Saronic fast-ferry line.
